Life Changing Decisions

There are many great reasons for me to become a medical transcriptionist such as it will allow me to work from home and I could enjoy more quality time with my family, we will have an increase in income, we will save money through not commuting or daycare expenses, and I would have job security in this rollercoaster market. From the time I was 16, I had a job that I would go to everyday and in January of 2009 that all changed when I had my first child. Since then my husband and I decided that I should quit my full time job working for The Department of Public Safety, so I could experience all the perks of motherhood. I never thought I would have so many emotions about being a mother and relying on someone to be the sole income provider.

I always thought I would be the kind of woman that would have to work and send their child to daycare, but when my little girl arrived all my wants and thoughts changed. Being able to see her grow in every way and not hearing about what she learned from someone else, makes everything seem worth while. It makes quitting much easier, even though we are living pay check to pay check and we are being bombarded with medical bills. I worked for the Department of Public Safety from 2001-2009 being a driver license technician, I would get paid monthly and in that time period I only receiving one pay increase and that was after working there for three years, and no bonuses were ever rewarded to me for my work. My annual salary was around $24,000 and that was hard to see, since I felt like I had done everything I could processing extremely large amount of applicants, learning new laws, and it was required to take numerous tests over the manuals they provided, along with classes they believed would increase our knowledge.  SN:1SE0V2ESY

I was promoted to head technician several months before I found out I was pregnant, but that was just a title, no payroll enhancements came with it. Even though I had job security working for the state, I would have to say that the pay is horrible because I was always in debt. I could never afford rent, car payments, gas, and insurance on my own so I had to move back to my parents for support. Now I am a stay at home mom and I would love to be able to help support my own family with work from home jobs. Another reason I would like to become a medical transcriptionist is I will be able to give back to someone that is involved in the medical field. Before I was married, I went to several community colleges to try to figure out what I wanted to be and what to get a degree or certificate in. Everything I wanted to get a degree in, was in some way related to health. I started out going for physical therapy, then massage therapy and then I completed a program for dental assistant.

When it was all said and done, I realized I could not tolerate the sight of blood and guts in my face, and that it would be better to do something behind the scene. At that point I did some research about jobs that would allow me to stay at home, make decent pay and would allow me to do something in the medical area. I have always heard of medical transcription but I never put that into consideration, until that day. I believe being a medical transcriptionist would help me and my family in many ways to better our future. Being able to stay home with my kids and contribute financially to our future would be like putting the icing on the cake, especially doing something that is interesting to me. I love to type and I love to work and helping people has always made me happy. The way I see it is I would be able to knock out everything I have always wanted by doing the school and working my way to the top with medical transcription employers.
